Understanding Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinaemia

For newcomers, this post is intended as an explanation of this blog.

In August 2005, my niece was born. She slept for the first few days until nurses were concerned that this could no longer be as a result of epidural-induced weariness.

It was an anxious time as we awaited conclusive information from the medical professionals involved with her care.

This blog was created shortly after her admittance to Middlemore Hospital and was regularly updated to follow her highs and lows, difficulties and milestones.

For those readers who have lost a child, it will be natural to feel a certain emotional affinity with Kataraina's parents, since it is those who have experienced this grief that naturally have the deepest understanding of it.

I hope this helps shed light on a very rare condition and the associated difficulties in treating it, but I also hope it shows parents with NKH children that there may be a lot involved in caring for these cherubs but with a supportive circle of people around you, it is managable, achievable and worth every minute.

For your information and understanding.

Kind regards,
Aunty Eva
